I read this post when it first came out. They didn’t fucking threaten you. In fact, you actually made things worse by screaming, “Fuck you!” at them. That’s the best fucking plan in that situation. Anger them. They made no attempt to come near you. They simply cat called. While a douchebag move, it’s not a crime. You’re a fucking victim and that’s all. You want everyone to feel bad at you. I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been cat called at once in her life. Shit, I’ve been cat called by women. Did I want them to fuck off? Yes. People like the op scare me. I try my best everyday to get over distrusting men as a group and then ONE guy says something like that and I want to busy myself in the basement just to feel safe.

Your comment hit the mark, I feel. The thing is that society has also told us that unless a white man backs you up you’re simply an over-dramatic bitch. It’s easier to deal with women when you dehumanize them, right?

I have been abused. I have been catcalled. I have been scared to confront men who treat women as though they were a sub-species because a big part of me believes that no matter what they might do to me, my behaviour will be what’s questioned, not their’s. Because rape culture tells us that if a women doesn’t assume that every man is a potential rapist, and she gets raped, she will get the blame. As if a human being should be held responsible for what someone else decides to do to said human being?

Anyway, I am sorry about what happened to you. I can see why you’d be afraid. I am sure I would have been scared to. Kudos to you for dealing with the ignorance of some people and I am sorry for you having to deal with people’s ignorance in the first place.
